The European Chess Office has established since last year the annual “European Golden Pawn” award ceremony at the Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo. Last November the first Monegasque ceremony dedicated to European legends and their achievements took place. An evening during which Monika Bacardi had the pleasure to meet the chess champion Garry Kasparov.

According to the European Chess Office: “The award ceremony will mark the beginning of a new tradition, rewarding each year the best representatives of European chess, the world of chess, the people for whom chess is not only a sport, but an exceptional, intellectual and royal game”.

In addition to the main ceremony and gala dinner attended by Monika Bacardi, the European Golden Pawn also included events such as a simultaneous chess exhibition by the legendary Garry Kasparov with the participation of 15 children and a blitz game between the champion and Nona Gaprindashvili.
